چکیده
Monocopters are nature-inspired, single-wing, rotating aerial vehicles that fly by spinning their entire body. Meanwhile, bicopters twin propeller-based control attitude changing the direction of thrust from motors using two servos. In this paper, we present a novel single-wing vehicle, which can in both monocopter and bicopter modes. To enhance its maneuverability while still being air, platform perform mid-air transition one mode to another. achieve this, fused attributes bicopter, allowing maintain natural shape for flight. Flight and hearing: ultrasound sensitivity differs between flight-capable and flight-incapable morphs of a wing-dimorphic cricket species.
We studied frequency sensitivity of flight-capable and flight-incapable forms of the wing-dimorphic cricket Gryllus texensis, using both behavioral and neurophysiological measurements. Behavioral thresholds for negative phonotaxis in response to ultrasound stimuli are lower for long-winged (i.e. flight-capable) crickets than for short-winged (flight-incapable) individuals, whereas thresholds fo...
متن کاملHover, Transition, and Level Flight Control Design for a Single-Propeller Indoor Airplane
This paper presents vehicle models and test flight results for an autonomous fixed-wing aircraft with the capability to take off, hover, transition to and from level-flight, and perch on a vertical landing platform. These maneuvers are all demonstrated in the highly space constrained environment of the Real-time indoor Autonomous Vehicle test ENvironment (RAVEN) at MIT. RAVEN promotes the rapid...
متن کاملDesign and Flight Testing of Inflatable Wings with Wing Warping
The paper presents work on testing of inflatable wings for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Inflatable wing history and recent research is discussed. Design and construction of inflatable wings is then covered, along with ground and flight testing. Discussions include predictions and correlations of the forces required to warp (twist) the wings to a particular shape and the aerodynamic forces g...
متن کاملDesign of a Sliding Mode Control for Wing Rock Suppression in Highly-Swept Wing Aircraft
W ing rock is an oscillatory ro lling motion which arises at high angles of attack in aircraft with highly-swept wings. In the present paper, a method to suppress wing rock through sliding mode control is proposed. Sliding mode control is designed to min imize together roll angle error and command input through a cost function. The procedure is performed on a wing-only analytical model, the con...
متن کاملDemonstration of an Aerial and Submersible Vehicle Capable of Flight and Underwater Navigation with Seamless Air-Water Transition
Bio-inspired vehicles are currently leading the way in the quest to produce a vehicle capable of flight and underwater navigation. However, a fully functional vehicle has not yet been realized. We present the first fully functional vehicle platform operating in air and underwater with seamless transition between both mediums. These unique capabilities combined with the hovering, high maneuverab...
